Garden of Gethsemane Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Israel-Circa 1900

The holy site of Gethsemane is a garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Christian tradition names this Holy Site as the place where Jesus prayed in agony before he was betrayed by Judas Iscariot and arrested by the Roman chort. Beside the garden is the Church of All Nations, built over the rock on which Jesus is believed to have prayed.

Still a Holy Site of pilgrimage today, this image reminds us of the humbling agony of Jesus’ sacrificial love for us, so that in our time of agony, we can reflect on the same humility..

My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." Mt 26:39
